Remove coffee stains

In a previous post here we talked about removing tea stains from carpet. In this post we take a look a bit different kind of stain, that is from coffee.

Coffee stains are similar to tea stains but at times might be a little stronger and require some extra effort to remove. However the methods are nearly same as that of removing tea.

1. Absorb with wet washcloth

Take a clean white washcloth and wet it with plain cold water. Press it on the stain and dab gently. Try to absorb out the stain as much as possible.

This will work only if the stain is fresh and a little wet. For dried stains, this may have no effect.

2. Vinegar

Prepare a mixture containing one part plain white vinegar with 2 parts of water. Now moisten a sponge or washcloth with this solution and again press it on the stained area. You can gently rub the stain in a circular manner to pull out the stain.

Repeat the process, till the stain disappears. Once the stain is gone, rinse with cold water again. Spill some water on the stain area and then soak it out with tissue paper.

3. Lemon with dishwashing liquid

This is an alternative method to the vinegar method. Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice in 1 cup water. Also add a little dishwashing liquid.

Now use this liquid to dampen a sponge or washcloth and then blot or dab the stain with it. Press and rub gently, till the stain dissolves out completely. Once the stain is completely gone, rinse the stained area with fresh cold water again.

Remove any excess moisture pressing a dry towel or tissue paper on the stain area.

4. Commercial stain removers

There are many commercial stain removing solutions that you can use to remove the stain, if none of the above method works. OxiClean is a very popular stain remover that works quite well to remove tea and coffee stains from carpets. You can get it from your local hardware store or amazon.com

Conclusion

You can also try shaving cream on the stain. Apply very little shaving cream on the stain and then gently rub with a wet sponge. It should dissolve and move the stain out.

Baking soda can also work well to remove the coffee stain. Mix a little baking soda in water and pour the mixture on the stain and then dab and press with a clean towel.

If the the carpet is something expensive and valuable, then you may not want to remove the stain yourself. Instead call a professional for the job.
